Your Pathway to a Career in Nursing
The LSU Pre-Nursing program provides students with the academic foundation and advising support needed to prepare for admission into LSU Health Science Center New Orleans – School of Nursing (LSUHSC-SON) Traditional BSN Program, otherwise known as LSU School of Nursing.
Pre-Nursing students complete prerequisite coursework at LSU, complete the admission exam (HESI A2 Exam) and prepare to apply. LSU School of Nursing determines admission to the nursing program, and completion of the LSU Pre-Nursing requirements does not guarantee admission.
Note: LSU Health Science Center New Orleans – School of Nursing has two campuses:
- New Orleans Campus - 190 Gravier St, New Orleans, LA 70112
- Baton Rouge Campus: Off Campus Instructional Site OCIS) - 50 Field House Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802 (Huey P. Long Field House)
What Is Pre-Nursing?
Pre-Nursing is a pre-professional pathway designed for students who plan to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
As a Pre-Nursing student at LSU, you will:
- Complete required nursing-school prerequisite courses for LSU School of Nursing.
- Build a strong foundation in science and general education.
- Work with a Pre-Nursing advisor to plan your coursework.
- Prepare for the HESI A2 Admission Assessment Exam.
- Complete the application requirements for LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing.
- Prepare for the transition from LSU into LSU School of Nursing’s professional nursing program.
Important: Pre-Nursing is not a nursing degree program. LSU Baton Rouge does not award BSN degree. Students seeking their BSN through the LSU pathway apply to the LSUHSC-SON.
Note: There is currently only one application for both the New Orleans and Baton Rouge Campuses. You will be asked in the application which campus you prefer.
