In the case of an emergency, always dial 911 first. 

If a crime or incident involves an LSU student or employee, you may report it to the LSU Police Department. You can do this by calling 225-578-3231 or stopping by the Public Safety Building located at 204 South Stadium Road. 

Yes. LSU Police Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Officers and Dispatchers are on duty and ready to help. We operate during holidays, emergency closures, etc. We are ALWAYS open!

Yes. LSU PD receives “911” calls directly from campus telephones. “911” calls made by off-campus telephones and wireless devices are received by East Baton Rouge and Emergency Medical Services, then forwarded to LSU PD as necessary.

The first step in crime prevention is being ALERT to the fact that crime can happen anywhere, at anytime, and to anyone - even you!

With this fact in mind, be AWARE of your surroundings at all times, and AVOID potentially dangerous situations. Keep your eyes up and ears open. If you are looking down at your cellphone and have ear buds in, you are not being aware of your surroundings. 

Let your friends and family know where you'll be and what time you expect to return. There's more safety in numbers, so stay in groups whenever possible. You may utilize the Friend Watch feature in the LSU Shield app. 

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS! If you feel uncomfortable, call the police. Personal safety is an active responsibility that requires your attention at all times. Never let your self-defense skills or any protective device give you a false sense of security.

The LSU PD offers two different women's self-defense classes:

LSU campus is a firearm-free zone, which may subject you to arrest. Please refer to LRS 14:95.6 Firearm-Free Zone for more information. 

Anyone found possessing a weapon may also be subject to university discipline per LSU Policy Statement 96: Firearm Policy

  • Select "Campus Community" in the left navigation bar
  • Select "Emergency Text Message" from the drop down menu
  • Input cellular service providers and cell phone numbers 

You must be a member of the LSU community to receive these emergency notifications. If you are not a member and would like to receive the emergency notifications, you may download the LSU mobile app. (You must allow the app to send push-notifications in order to receive a copy of LSU alerts).
