Student Internship Opportunities

The Louisiana State University Office of Human Resource Management takes part in a 12-week internship program each semester. LSU HRM’s Spring 2022 Internship Program will take place on January 24th and end on April 15th. As an intern, you will be a part of a team of interns from several divisions in the HR department including Training & Development, Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Compensation, and Shared Services. On the Intern Team, you will assist in recruiting for and refining the program, make recommendations, and give back to your university and fellow students. The Intern will work directly with their supervisor to gain hands-on experience and have opportunities to network with other HR professionals with years of experience working in the field. The intern will be able to have autonomy, along with the approval of his/her supervisor, in deciding a work schedule. The HRM office is located in central campus, sitting between LSU Library and the underground Subway at 110 Thomas Boyd Hall. These are unpaid internships.

Compensation and Classification Intern

The Compensation and Classification section of the Office of Human Resource Management is responsible for the revision, implementation and administration of Louisiana State University’s compensation plan including the classification and pay of over 5,300 Academic, Professional, Classified Civil Service and Graduate Assistant jobs. The Compensation and Classification team acts as a strategic partner to the departments and serves as a resource for all matters related to establishing a defined compensation plan to ensure top talent is recruited and retained. They also work to ensure the accurate reporting of job classifications and organizational design. The Compensation and Classification Team supports the university’s vision of being a leading research-extensive university to help solve the state’s economic, environmental, and social challenges.

Some job responsibilities for this intern include assisting the Compensation Consultants with collection, analysis and data quality and integrity of HCM information and records from Workday and historical platforms, preparing, dissecting and disseminating reporting/metrics from Workday, partnering with Compensation Consultants with the creation of materials to articulate to campus partners procedures and methodologies related to compensation, classification, and organizational design, and more.

Employee Relations Intern

As a member of the Employee Relations (ER) team, you will be provided a unique opportunity to apply what you have learned in the classroom to gain real world experience that will help in your future career. We offer an in-depth understanding of our case management system (NAVEX), LSU’s policies and procedures, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the Performance Evaluation System (PES), and the exit interview process.

The ER department is looking for two interns who are interested in learning how to help an organization maintain a positive relationship with its employees and assist with performance management process. Some job responsibilities for these interns include maintaining and updating employee records in case management systems, analyzing and identifying trends based on exit interview data, creating training and resource documents for employees, and more.

Program Development Intern 

As a member of the LSU HRM Training & Development team, the intern will contribute to exciting efforts to grow and strengthen LSU’s talent to meet the challenges of tomorrow. The intern will have exposure to areas of training and development from conducting needs assessments, design, development, and implementation of classroom, and blended learning. The intern will leverage team expertise, research, and academic background to engage in work activities.

Some job responsibilities for this intern include supporting and assisting with coordinating and planning training department offerings, initiatives, events, and projects, such as the LSU HRM Internship Program, leading intern team meetings to assign projects tasks and obtain information to analyze and evaluate the intern program experience, creating training resources for interns and supervisors to support and elevate their performance, and more.

Social Media and Communications Intern

The social media and strategic communications intern will work alongside the communication specialist to develop and implement communication plans, manage social media, and assist in mission critical tasks which supports the goals of the Office of Human Resource Management (HRM) and Louisiana State University, which serves all LSU A&M employees.  

Some job responsibilities of this intern include assisting in the growth and development of the HRM brand by raising awareness through various social media platforms on services offered, mission, vision, and values, assisting in implementing plans to increase engagement on social media websites, researching and creating HRM social media content, and write copy to promote employee benefits, trainings, wellness tips, events, and other employment related materials, and more.

Talent Acquisition Intern

The Talent Acquisition Intern will be responsible for a range of tasks supporting the Talent Acquisition team. This includes coordinating efforts for the entire life cycle of recruitment and developing materials to inform internal constituents of best practices for recruiting on campus. This position may also involve sourcing new candidates and requires a great degree of communication between different persons and detail-oriented work.

Some job responsibilities for this intern will include assisting with sourcing, screening, and qualifying ideal candidates for various open positions within the organization, gaining an understanding of job functions, team structures, and culture within the LSU Office of Human Resource Management, providing support for executive recruitment initiatives, and more.

As a member of the LSU HRM Training & Development team, the intern will contribute to exciting efforts to grow and strengthen LSU’s talent to meet the challenges of tomorrow. The intern will have exposure to areas of training and development from conducting needs assessments, design, development, and implementation of classroom, and blended learning. The intern will leverage team expertise, research, and academic background to engage in work activities.  

Some job responsibilities for this intern include supporting and assisting with coordinating and planning training department offerings, projects, initiatives, and events, researching tools and resources to enhance learner experience, assisting with designing and developing new and ongoing training and development programs, and more.
