Pre-Athletic Training

You want to work with physically active individuals, helping them to prevent, assess, and rehabilitate injuries so that they can safely return to their activities and maintain long-term health and performance.

Pathway to Athletic Training Programs

  1. Select any major at LSU
  2. Take the necessary pre-requisite courses for your desired professional athletic training program 
  3. Maintain a high GPA, especially in science-related coursework (3.0 minimum for LSU’s MS in Athletic Training Program)
  4. Complete clinical observation under the supervision of a certified athletic trainer
  5. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) with First Aid certifications (by American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
  6. Apply for a Master of Science in Athletic Training

Master of Science in Athletic Training

  • 4 years of undergraduate coursework (bachelor's degree)
  • 2 years of a professional athletic training program school
  • 6 estimated total years of school after high school
