Founded in 1928, the LSU Department of Sociology is home to a tradition of excellence
in research, teaching, and service. Our faculty carry out nationally and internationally
recognized research on basic and applied social science questions. Every semester
our undergraduate teaching program serves approximately 600 undergraduate majors,
hundreds of minors, and thousands of additional students as part of our contribution
to LSU’s education mission. We are also home to a vibrant graduate teaching program
with more than 50 students, which offers the only PhD in sociology in Louisiana.
We invite you to explore our faculty's scholarly interests.
