Brief Biography

Dr. Kim explores interconnections between mental health and health risk behaviors among vulnerable populations, especially at-risk youth, immigrants, and refugees. Her research addresses behavioral health inequities and identifies salient risk and protective factors to achieve health/mental health equity while exploring pathways to enhanced resilience and improved well-being among vulnerable populations. Her background, including developing and implementing community- and school-based interventions, addresses health-related risky behaviors. Dr. Kim has worked with children and youth in school contexts, and her research on culturally grounded intervention addresses inequalities in behavioral health access for minority children and adolescents with different cultural backgrounds in underserved communities. She recently conducted community-based participatory research on post-migration risk and resilience among African refugees in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and currently leads a financial empowerment intervention project using a healing-centered approach in Louisiana.
