Travel Support Programs

The Office of Research & Economic Development has several internal grant programs to support faculty travel in the service of research.

Research Travel Support

The Office of Research & Economic Development offers matching travel grants to assist faculty with reimbursable expenses for research-related travel. The purpose of this program is to leverage institutional travel funds to help faculty

  • present original research, scholarship, or creative activity at national and international conferences
  • visit program directors or attend planning workshops with federal funding agencies for the purpose of preparing grant proposals to those agencies

Faculty Travel Grants will provide a 1:1 match of department or college travel funds up to $750 for domestic and international travel. Matching funds must come from either depart- mental or college sources. Funds from external grants cannot be used as a cost match.

Application & Travel Dates

Grants will be offered and reviewed quarterly. Beginning December 1, 2021, the program will review the following proposals for the following time frames. A revised schedule will be announced for the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

  • Winter (travel during Jan–Mar 2022)
  • Spring (travel during Apr–Jun 2022)
  • Summer (travel during Jul–Aug 2022)

A limited number of funds have been allocated for each term,  and grants will be reviewed by a faculty review panel. Approval will be based on eligibility, merit, and available funds.

Proposals for travel that has already taken place will not be funded.

Travel to SEC Universities

The SEC Visiting Faculty Travel Grant Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. It gives faculty from one SEC university the opportunity to travel to another SEC campus to exchange ideas, develop grant proposals, and conduct research. Applications are typically accepted in the Spring for an internal peer-review, with award notifications made in late May for travel in the following academic year (August - July).
