Proposal Development Resources
The Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED) is committed to nurturing and supporting high-impact (e.g., large-scale), interdisciplinary, and/or strategic research and instruction programs at LSU. As part of this mission, ORED, through the Office of Research Advancement (ORA), will provide administrative and technical support for the development and submission of major grant and strategic proposals. ORA was developed to provide comprehensive support for multidisciplinary and strategic programs; facilitate research collaboration with local, national, and international partners; and promote research initiatives within the seven focal areas identified in the ORED Strategic Plan.
This page describes ORA's proposal development resources.
Proposal Components and Examples
ORA is curating a series of proposal components and examples---including examples of successful proposals from other LSU faculty and a list of LSU facilities and equipment---from agencies LSU researchers commonly apply to, including federal agencies like NEH, NSF, NIH, ED, and DOE, as well as private foundations like the Keck Foundation. Our list is always in progress, and we welcome suggestions for proposal components and examples, as well as volunteers to provide examples.
To view these components or examples, you must be affiliated with LSU and use your PAWS ID to access our Moodle page. Please email email@example.com if you have any difficulty viewing the examples or have any questions about them.
ORA hosts a workshop and presentation every year on how to incorporate broader impacts (BI) in proposals, and maintains a list of resources at LSU to aid researchers in connecting their research with communities beyond LSU. Through our Moodle page, LSU researchers can watch a previous panel workshop on BI (presentation file) from Spring 2021 led by the College of Science's Assistant Dean for Diversity & Inclusion, Dr. Zakiya Wilson-Kennedy, that covers the history of the BI requirement in NSF proposals, summarizes best BI practices, and offers insight from successful proposals.
