Program Costs
Overview of Short-term/Summer Program Costs
There are three types of fees for every short term/summer program:
Program Fees
Program fees are specific to the program in which your student chooses to participate. On the specific program's page, a list of what is covered by the program fee is located under the "Dates and Costs" tab. Housing and some meals are always included in the program fees. Transportation, meals, health insurance, and other costs vary by program. Airfare is almost never included.
Program Fee | Costs |
Installment One | $500 deposit added to students' billing statement when applying for program |
Installment Two | Varies by program: will be on fee bill for same semester as program. (Will be $500 less than actual program fee since the deposit has already been paid) |
LSU Tuition and Fees
All students taking courses at LSU pay tuition and fees for the courses. The amount of tuition assessed is based on whether or not the student is a resident of Louisiana. Students who are not residents of Louisiana will pay out of state tuition for courses they take through LSU. All students who receive course credit through LSU pay tuition, regardless of the location of the course. Tuition is based on residency, not the location of the classroom. Courses taught on short-term programs are assessed tuition at the same rates as courses taught on the main campus. Tuition rates can be found in the LSU Fee Schedule.

The stipend you receive at the host institution is based on the local cost of living and is the amount that the outgoing international student has paid for you to take his/her place. Keep in mind that the program fee that you pay at your home university not only allows you to go abroad, but it also permits another ISEP student to study in your place at your home university.

Overview of Costs for NSE Exchange
An NSE exchange is an extremely affordable study away option for LSU students. While on exchange, students have two options for payment plans: Plan A and Plan B. On both plans, most types of financial aid (including federal loans and TOPS) count toward your exchange. Was TOPS a major reason you stayed at LSU, as opposed to studying out-of-state? If so, study out-of-state with NSE and still use your TOPS!
APA and NSE charge a combined, non-refundable application fee of $263. This fee covers all administrative aspects of your exchange, including aiding with the course transfer process upon return.
Plan A: "Pay Away"
Students on Plan A pay in-state tuition and fees at the host university. Often, this amount can be less than LSU's tuition and fees. This option is very attractive for out-of-state LSU students and their families. Your financial aid is distributed by your host university and TOPS credits during the first week of class.
Plan B: "Pay Back Home"
Students on Plan B pay their regular tuition rate and fees to LSU, while studying at the host university. While on a Plan B exchange, you remain eligible for most forms of financial aid, just as if you were still a student at LSU.
NOTE: Though every effort will be taken to ensure your preference, exchanges on a particular plan cannot be guaranteed. Certain schools only participate on Plan A or Plan B, though most accept both. Often, acceptance rates vary based on the payment plans.
