Research Interests

My research interests focus on the intersection between cognition and psychiatric disease in adults at mid-to-late life. I investigate how psychiatric disorders and psychiatric symptoms in neurodegenerative disease interact with cognition, cause anosognosia (deficits in insight), and alter emotional processes. Additionally, my work aims to find novel treatment approaches for psychiatric conditions, in particular hoarding disorder and anxiety. Research approaches include neuropsychological assessment, neuroscience methods (EEG, psychophysiology, and neuroimaging), and neuromodulation with a central focus on repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).

Prospective graduate students interested in clinical neuropsychology, neurocognitive aging, psychiatric disease (especially OCD and related disorders), or the pathophysiology of emotion and insight are encouraged to reach out. Trainees gain experience with neuropsychological assessment, rTMS protocols and treatment delivery, and clinical research with adult populations in mid-to-late life. Potential collaborators in cognitive neuroscience, aging, neurodegenerative disease, psychiatry, and related fields are also welcome to contact Dr. Zakrzewski.
