Master's & Ph.D Degree

Yes, both our MSCM and Ph.D. in Construction Management are STEM Designated Degree Program (CIP Code: 14.3301).

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 semester hours of previous undergraduate or graduate program. For the case of GPA lower than 3.0, the admission could be granted with probation for domestic applicants if approved by the admission committee after reviewing your application package, but it will be reviewed case by case.

GRE is NOT required for an MSCM admission.

Ph.D. applicants are required to meet a minimum GRE test score of at least 300 (verbal and quantitative) unless one of our graduate faculty is willing to request a GRE waiver for you.

International applicants are required to provide satisfactory TOEFL score of at least 79 on internet-based, an IELTS score of 6.5, or a PTE of at least 59 scores. Applicants with a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the primary language of instruction may be exempt from the English proficiency requirement.

Official application materials include a transcript and standardized test results (if applicable), you may choose to upload unofficial copies of transcript and test result to speed up the processing time. If admitted, the graduate school will require official copies to be submitted. Other supporting materials include curriculum vitae, letters of recommendation, and statement of purpose.

Masters applicants without construction background are eligible for admission if admission requirements are satisfied. You may be required to complete required CM leveling courses before the completion of the degree if lacking construction management related knowledge through either courses or professional experience.

Ph.D. applicants are required to have at least an academic background in construction management, construction engineering, or related discipline and a considerable amount of work experience in the construction industry.

Typically, the MSCM is designed to be completed within 1.5 - 2 years but may vary depending on the student’s progress towards completing course work, research project, or thesis for the different paths that you take. Detailed information for the three paths of the MSCM program..

The Ph.D. program can be completed within 3-5 years and may also vary depending on the student’s progress towards completing course work and dissertation

The office of the graduate school determines eligibility for domestic and international admission. The admission process can take some few weeks (2-4 weeks) once your application materials are complete, the graduate school will route your application to the department, within the department, the admission committee usually has a quick turnaround (within a week) if everything goes smoothly, then the departmental decision goes back to the graduate school who will eventually contact you for the decision.

The department offers teaching and research assistantships to on-campus graduate students as positions become available. Faculty members may also recommend students for fellowships and stipends when these become available. Other non-specific and administrative assistantships are listed on the Graduate School’s weekly announcement.  Additional fellowship and scholarship opportunities can be found on the CM Scholarship page and the LSU student financial aid page.

If you are selected for assistantship (TA or RA), you will receive an official offer letter detailing the term and amount of your assistantship, if you are hearing from the department, then it means you are not selected.

 

Post-Bachelor’s Certificate

Admission requirement for the PBC program is a bachelor’s degree with a 2.0 GPA or above, 3.0 if leveling for masters.

The program is a six, seven-week long online courses (18 credit hours) that can be completed at the student’s pace. Typically, the program can be completed in 6-12 months.
