What is AIT?
The Academic Intervention Team (AIT) is part of the LSU Cares network.
When students are referred to AIT with issues impeding academic progress, this team
intervenes on the student’s behalf based on the
student’s unique needs.
What is the difference between an AIT Case and a progress report?
a. An AIT case and progress report both alert the Center for Academic
Success when a student is in need of support.
b. A progress report is submitted during the first 3-6 weeks in a semester to
notify CAS staff of academic concerns to provide early interventions.
Progress reports mainly concern individual student issues that are course
specific such as absences and missed assignments.
c. An AIT case can be submitted at any point in the semester by any
stakeholder for a student (faculty, staff, friends, family, student self-
report, etc.). These mainly concern academics, but are not always course
specific, and can include compounding issues, such as motivation, mental
health, time management, etc. It is appropriate to submit an AIT case if
progress reports are unavailable to be submitted.
What happens when an AIT case is submitted?
When the AIT staff receive the case, it is reviewed and initial case
outreach is done to the student. The case is then assigned to either an
academic advisor or learning specialists depending on student need and
time of the semester to receive resources and support. The assigned staff
member will reach out at least three times via text and email to the
student before closing the case.
