Art + Design Career Networking Day

Please join the LSU Olinde Career Center and College of Art + Design for Art + Design Career Networking Day! This is an opportunity for students and alumni to learn what employers expect from a future employee, get tips on job searching, learn about opportunities available to students and graduates, conduct portfolio reviews, and participate in optional interview for open positions.

Location: LSU Student Union, Royal Cotillion Ballroom

8 - 9 a.m.: Student Org Fair for employers and students to learn how Art + Design student organizations prepare students to be career ready

9 a.m. - Noon: Open Networking for employers to network with students and alumni interested in the art and design industry.

Noon - 1 p.m.: Employer Lunch hosted by Dean Tsolakis of the College of Art + Design

1:15 - 4:15 p.m.: Optional Interviews, arranged during the Open Networking portion

Student Information

This event has a variety of ways for students and alumni to network and interact with recruiters! ​Read carefully below to ensure you attend the portions of the event most beneficial to you. Please note, optional interviews are scheduled during the Open Networking portion of the event.

This event is for current students of LSU System campuses and alumni from the Baton Rouge campus.

Registration is not required to attend. Students and alumni of all classifications and majors are encouraged to attend. You will check in at our Student Check-In table.

Event Schedule

Art + Design Student Org Fair from 8 - 9 a.m.

The day will begin with the opportunity for students and employers to learn more about Art + Design student organizations and how they prepare students to be career ready.

Open Network​ing from 9 a.m. - Noon

This is an opportunity for students and alumni interested in careers in art and design to meet with employers about what they expect from a future employee, tips on job searching, what their companies have to offer you as a student and future grad, and conduct portfolio reviews. Students may bring portfolio materials to Open Networking for employers to review, but this is not required.

Optional Interviews from 1:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Employers may elect to stay from 1:15 to 4:15 p.m. to conduct interviews with candidates in the LSU Olinde Career Center Recruitment Center. Employers will arrange their schedules directly with candidates during the networking portion.

How to Prepare

  • Research companies attending and any open positions ahead of time. Make notes about companies and opportunities you are interested in, and jot down questions you would like to ask representatives. View registered companies on Handshake

  • Practice your elevator pitch. You should be confident in how you introduce yourself to employers. 

  • Business casual attire is strongly encouraged in order to make a positive, professional impression on potential employers and networking contacts. View examples of attire on our Pinterest and plan to attend Suit Up for discounts if you are in need of new attire. 

  • If you are looking for an internship or full-time position, prepare a portfolio and or résumé and bring résumé copies with you to leave with employers. During the Open Networking portion, you can also inquire about open positions and same-day interviews. Here are tips on creating a strong résumé. Download our résumé template to get you started.

To register:

  1. Log into Handshake. Not a Handshake user? Learn more about Handshake and create your free account today.

  2. Select the "Fairs" tab on the left navigation menu.

  3. Search for this event by entering "Louisiana State University" in the search bar. All LSU open event registrations will appear for you to browse.

  4. Select the event you would like to register for and proceed with the registration form.

Registration Costs

  •  Registration: $50

    Includes booth, lunch, and parking for two representatives

  • Extra Representatives - $ 25.00 each

Pop up banners and signage larger than 8ft table is not permitted at this event. Small table signage/banners, personalized linens and giveaways are acceptable. Please review the Employer Event Information Packet and the Event Refund Cancellation and Weather Policy.

Event Timeline

Reverse Career Fair Hour from 8 - 9 a.m.

The day will begin with a reverse career fair from 8 - 9 a.m. with Art + Design student organizations in the LSU Student Union Royal Cotillion Ballroom. Please attend during this hour to learn more about our student organizations and what LSU students have to offer prospective employers. 

Open Networking from 9 a.m. - Noon

From 9 a.m. - Noon, there will be an open networking session for employers to meet with LSU students ​pursuing careers in the ​art and design industry. Employers can share information about their company, open positions, and future employment opportunities (internships, co-ops, full-time or part-time,) conduct portfolio reviews, and  schedule afternoon interviews with students. Employers may bring giveaways, company signage no larger than 8ft, and a company tablecloth.

Employer Lunch from noon - 1 p.m.

Employers are encouraged to stay for lunch (Atchafalaya Room) to network with the Art + Design Dean and hear about exciting news and plans in the college.  

Optional Interviews from 1:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Employers may elect to stay from 1:15 to 4:15 p.m. to conduct interviews with candidates in the LSU Olinde Career Center Recruitment Center. Optional interviews are offered on a first come, first served basis for the afternoon of the event. Please indicate your desire to say for interviews in your event registration. Employers are limited to one interview room only. Employers will arrange their schedules directly with candidates during the networking portion event.

  • Your organization’s table is located in a Preferred Placement on the event floor, based on high student traffic areas and event space availability. Placement is at the discretion of the LSU Olinde Career Center.

  • Organization recognized as an Event Sponsor in social media post on LSU Olinde Career Center social channels.

  • Name and/or logo promoted on event web page and on the Handshake event preview page for students and employers, and in email promotions sent to all students leading up to the event.

  • Name and/or logo promoted on event signage and on the student handout.
