We celebrated LSU's 296th commencement ceremony on Friday, Aug. 3, welcoming 607 new
graduates to the rank of LSU alumni. Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, Louisiana Commissioner of
Higher Education and two-time LSU alumna herself, spoke to the graduating class, challenging
them to use their education to change the world.
LSU’s Stephenson Technologies Corporation Awarded $10 Million for Cybersecurity Work
LSU’s Stephenson Technologies Corporation has received a $10 million award from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Air Force Research Laboratory to help
local small businesses proactively and actionably defend themselves against cyber
attacks.
Small businesses are essential to local and regional economies -- but are at the receiving
end of nearly half of all cyber-related crime. Even a moderately sophisticated attack
can be disastrous for a small business, which in turn can weaken the local economy
and the overall resilience of an industry sector or region.

LSU Junior Receives $13K for Robotics Mentoring
LSU Mechanical Engineering student and Baton Rouge native Bret Dupree recently secured
a $13,000 grant from Dow Chemical to teach robotics to high school students.

LSU Senior Wins Hidden Heroes Award
Louis Gremillion, who graduated on Aug. 3 with a bachelor's degree in political science,
was one of only five students in the nation recognized with the Andrew Goodman Foundation's
2018 Hidden Heroes Award.
Gremillion was selected for his work in procuring and implementing TurboVote, an online
voter registration program on campus to make the process more accessible to LSU students.

LSU Doctoral Student Developing New Hurricane Modeling Capabilities
LSU Ph.D. student Felix Santiago-Collazo is working to fix a problem that affected
his family and his home, Puerto Rico, as well as all of us in southern Louisiana:
the strength and impact of a hurricane. He is developing a computer model that can predict both rainfall runoff and storm surge. This new representation will
demonstrate a more realistic flood zone that would help policy makers and locals avoid
disaster.

In August 2018, LSU recognized its largest Hispanic summer graduating class on record.
LSU Department of Physics & Astronomy Assistant Professor Scott Marley is part of
a university consortium that has been awarded a five-year, $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to establish and implement the Center for Excellence
in Nuclear Training and University-based Research, or CENTAUR.
The Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants recently honored Baton Rouge CPAs, J. Gerard “Jerry” Jolly, Peggy Scott, Jeffrey
Koonce and Layne McDaniel for their remarkable contributions to the CPA profession
and the community. All four honorees are graduates of the LSU E. J. Ourso College
of Business.
The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business was ranked No. 3 on a list of the “50 Most Beautiful Business Schools” compiled by TopManagementDegrees.com, a guide to business and management education.
