President Trump named LSU Department of Chemistry Barre Distinguished Professor Graça Vicente and the LSU Office of Strategic Initiatives as recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, or PAESMEM. PAESMEM recognizes outstanding efforts of mentors in encouraging the next generation of innovators and developing a science and engineering workforce that reflects the diverse talent of America. Only 27 individuals and 14 organizations received this elite recognition.

LSU EnvironMentors Awarded the Nation’s Top Chapter of the Year

The LSU chapter of  EnvironMentors, an after-school science mentoring initiative that pairs high school students from Scotlandville Magnet High with LSU undergraduate and graduate mentors who help them improve their understanding of science, was awarded the 2018 Chapter of the Year.

LSU is among the top 100 worldwide universities granted U.S. Utility Patents in 2017, according to the National Academy of Inventors and Intellectual Property Owners Association. LSU faculty were awarded 35 patents in the 2017 calendar year.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration and Louisiana Economic Development is awarding a $1.6 million grant to build new roadway infrastructure for LSU Innovation Park.

LSU petroleum engineering major Robert “Mitchell” Petras  was one of 50 students nationwide recently selected as an Astronaut Scholar by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, and the first petroleum engineering major in the history of the scholarship, which dates back to 1986, to receive the honor.

Mycologia recently honored LSU Boyd Professor Meredith Blackwell with a Festschrift – an issue of research papers contributed by former students, post doctoral researchers and colleagues. This is the first Festschrift issued in the journal’s 110-year history.

The LSU Board of Supervisors awarded its latest round of LIFT2 gap funding to help university research make the transition from lab to marketplace. Among 12 new projects supported through this critical program are new breast cancer treatments, biodegradeable Mardi Gras beads and oyster-flavored powder.

LSU alumna Erin Kilpatrick, who earned both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accountancy from the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business, was recently announced as one of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) 2017 Elijah Watt Sells Award winners.

Seeing and the "Eye Of The Imagination": Fantasy, Surrealism, and Horror in the Clarence John Laughlin Book Collection

July 2 - Sept. 21, 2018 at LSU's Hill Memorial Library (closed on Sundays)


Experience the Clarence John Laughlin Book Collection, which mirrors the eclectic interests of Laughlin, who is best known for the surreal photographs of architectural decay in his seminal work, "Ghosts Along the Mississippi." Measuring equal parts fine art, fantasy, the occult and science fiction, this exhibition is free and open to the public.
