Plan & Progress
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has recently made LSU aware that our online presence may not be fully in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Therefore, the university is working to rectify this situation immediately. President Alexander has empaneled an Online Accessibility Working Group, composed of representatives from across campus, to evaluate all issues, and we will be looking at our online policies to help ensure that LSU is compliant. This effort will range from LSU’s very prominent homepage to individual employee web pages, including other online products such as Workday and Moodle, and any other online services that your department may have purchased or may be maintaining.
Per LSU’s resolution agreement with the Office for Civil Rights, all LSU webpages, including faculty websites, lab websites and online vendor solutions, must include the following links in the footer of each page by close of business April 13, 2018:
- “Provide Website Feedback” – www.lsu.edu/feedback
- “Accessibility Statement” – www.lsu.edu/accessibility
In addition to posting the links, the university must provide the Office for Civil Rights with documentation verifying that the links have been added to all webpages. Once your office has completed adding the links, document your progress by completing the form at http://www.lsu.edu/accessibility/notice-form.php.
LSU will offer annual accessibility training via an online module to all of campus. Specialized training is also available for specific groups.
The university is working with Usable Net, a digital compliance with end-to-end accessibility services company, to audit, both manually and with an automated tool, LSU's online presence.
Corrective Action Plan
The Corrective Action Plan will tell OCR how LSU plans to fix existing content, bringing the entire online presence into compliance by August 2019. Details of this plan will be made available once approved by OCR.
As part of this plan, the Division of Strategic Communications has begun OU Campus remediation.
