The LSU Family Council is an opportunity exclusively available to members of the LSU Family Association. The Council serves as a resource for all LSU families by enhancing the university experience for both students and families. It offers a way for members to:

  • take an active role in planning and organizing LSU Family Association events
  • offer valuable feedback to University administrators
  • connect with other LSU families
  • share special LSU experiences with their student

Make a Gift to the LSU Family Council

  • Provide leadership and vision for the LSU Family Association
  • Serve as liaisons between Association members and the university to advocate goals and plans of the Association to members, as well as to help reflect views of Association members to LSU administration
  • Provide programming support for Association by giving feedback and serving as volunteers, as needed, at events such as Family Weekend and Family Orientation
  • Assist in fundraising and development efforts in support of the Association

  • Become familiar with campus activities, resources, and services to advocate for the university and uphold the mission of the Association
  • Attend Council meetings twice a year  held in conjunction with Family Association events (Fall: Family Weekend; Spring: Crawfish Boil Tailgate)
  • Participate in Council conference calls twice a year
  • Serve as a regional representative in your area by attending recruitment events hosted by LSU Enrollment Management, acting as a contact person for first year families in your area, and building relationships with your local LSU recruiter and LSU Alumni chapter
  • Greet LSU families through welcome calls and/or by hosting or attending regional Send-Off events for incoming students and parents
  • Provide feedback on parent engagement strategies
  • Serve on one of three committees -- Emergency Support Fund Committee, Family Scholarship Fund Committee, or Development Committee
  • Give an annual leadership gift of $1,000 or more to the LSU Family Council Fund

  • Emergency Support Fund Committee -- The Student Emergency Support Fund benefits students in need of support for emergency situations. The fund has helped students who have experienced total loss due to fires, tragic/unexpected death of a parent/family member, and sudden loss of employment. LSU Family Council members serving on this Committee review Emergency Support Fund applications and provide a recommendation on funding to Student Affairs staff via email within 24 hours
  • Family Association Scholarship Committee -- Since 2010, the LSU Family Association has awarded more than $113,000 in scholarships to students of Family Association members. The Scholarship Fund helps alleviates financial burdens on students with a $1,000 scholarship funded by the annual Tiger Talk Phone Campaign as well as through individual donations. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, financial need (including other financial aid awards received), involvement, leadership and/or service in the LSU community. LSU Family Council members serving on this Committee participate in the (second round) selection process by reviewing applicant responses to two short essay questions and submitting scores and recommendations to Student Affairs staff via email
  • Development Committee  -- The goal of the Development Committee is to increase financial support to Student Affairs by increasing annual fund revenue for the Student Life Experience Fund, LSU Family Association, and other division-wide initiatives to enhance student success. LSU Family Council members serving on this Committee make a leadership gift of $2,500 or more, attend events and receptions, and call LSU parents to educate them about the importance of philanthropy and invite them to make a gift to the
University. Committee members also meet with the director of development for Student Affairs as a group at fall and spring Council meetings
