Pathway to Nursing School

  1. Designate your "major" as Pre-Nursing, which is a pre-professional/non-degree program at LSU
  2. Take the necessary pre-requisite courses for your desired nursing school (ex: LSU Health New Orleans)
  3. Maintain a high GPA (3.0 minimum, "B" or higher in all science courses)
  4. Prep for and take the HESI Admission Assessemnt Exam (80% score minimum)
  5. Complete any additional application requirements (written statement, interview, etc.)

Estimated Time to Completion

Bachelor's Degree (B.S., B.A., etc.) + Nursing Degree (B.S.N.)

  • 4 years of undergraduate coursework at LSU
  • 3 years of nursing school
  • 7 estimated total years of school after high school

Undergraduate Prerequisites Only + Nursing Degree (B.S.N.)

  • 1 year of undergraduate coursework at LSU
  • 3 years of nursing school
  • 4 estimated total years of school after high school
