Research Goal

The focus of the Energy and Propulsion laboratory is on developing fundamental knowledge regarding physical, chemical, and fluid dynamic processes in combustion based applications with the ultimate aim of improving design, operation, efficiency and emissions.

Research Overview

Our research is focused on energy with particular focus on combustion and fuels based applications. The driving interest is to develop fundamental knowledge regarding the various phenomena that occur in practical combustion based applications. A major focus is on engines for ground, air, and space transportation. We are interested in technologies that improve the performance of existing systems like internal combustion, gas turbine, and rocket engines as well as development of advanced propulsion systems for high speed aircraft such as ramjet and scramjet engines. We use both experimental and numerical methods in our research. Our facility has access to several advanced non-intrusive diagnostics including Phase Doppler Particle Anemometry, Laser Induced Fluorescence, and high speed imaging. We have access to the computational resources at LSU and at other supercomputing facilities.
